Slug and Ant wanted to make a sauce with the main flavor focused on Maple syrup, an ode to growing up in Minnesota. I was definitely nervous going into this one, but if you know me, you know I love a challenge.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eWhen I began this collaboration with Slug and Ant, HAB was growing rapidly and I was making four to six batches a week of our other sauces to keep up with demand. Even being spread so thin, I had a clear vision of what I needed to make this sauce a reality. I poured my heart and soul into this recipe, sourcing produce I’d never worked with before in order to offer you a bottle packed with flavor and the perfect balance of heat. My list of ingredients included: organic 100% pure maple syrup, organic deglet noor dates, red bell peppers, leeks, white wine vinegar and to top it off I used cherrywood smoked sea salt that I got from a friend at Jacobson’s Salt Co. Working with new ingredients and combining elements I wasn’t even sure would work together was a risk, but somehow everything came together on the first test batch. After making that initial batch, I sent the sauce off to Slug and Ant. Right away they gave me the green light and I knew this was going to have to be a permanent flavor going forward.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\" style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eI wanted to go in a tripped out direction with the label art, so I asked my brother Angel aka @kujorock if he was down to design the label. We wanted to integrate Minnesota into the design so Slug suggested dragon flies and mosquitoes and we printed the label with a holographic finish. I believe what Angel came up with really brought the entire bottle’s aesthetic together, resulting in a bottle that is a work of art in its own right. I can’t wait for everyone to give this sauce a try. I love it on chicken and waffles, pizza, burritos - just about anything. It’s got the perfect balance of sweetness and medium to medium hot heat.
